- A large bipartisan group of US lawmakers sent a letter [PDF] to the secretary of defense urging him to base sequestration-driven furlough decisions on merit, reports Government Executive.
- Northrop Grumman’s Q1 2013 revenue was down 1.5% Y/Y to $6.1B, as information systems continue to lose ground (-9%) in contrast to resilience on the aerospace side (+4%). The current budget environment in the US led to a 3.4% decline in the backlog, down to $39.4B.
- Meanwhile General Dynamics’s revenue for Q1 decreased by 2.3% Y/Y, to $7.4B. Aerospace moved past Combat Systems as the second largest sales contributor for the quarter. The total backlog shrunk by 5.5% through the quarter to $48.5B and is $6.7B smaller than a year ago.
- The US Air Force announced in September 2011 its interest in developing a process to inspect, repair, and refurbish its aerospace bearings rather than always buy them new. It then issued an RFP in January 2013 to procure such services, but it just got canceled.
- Maj. Gen. Patrick Higgins will leave the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization (JIAMDO) to take the helm of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO).
- The UK MoD pre-announced through the press then confirmed that they are proceeding with their plan (introduced last year) to turn Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) procurement office into a Government Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO). Or at least they are continuing their evaluation of that option, as a final decision won’t be made until the summer 2014. MoD | The Guardian | FT (which seems curiously unaware this isn’t new).
